Grape vines on a hill overlooking a harbour and the sea

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

With a commanding view of the sea, La Cappelletta perches 200m above the harbour on the Monte di Portofino. Vermentino vines cascade down steep, sun-soaked terraces, rich in minerals and hard to access by foot. Such rugged landscape requires intensive care from the farmers who train, prune and harvest each vine by hand.

Once a year friends, family and farmers gather at La Cappelletta to begin the harvest. It’s a magical time when the community comes together to celebrate the vines and all the hard work that goes into caring for them.

The Vermentino grapes are
hand-picked and taken to the Cantina to begin the fermentation process in small stainless-steel tanks. Acclaimed winemaker Carlo Ferrini has overseen the operation since 2023, blending his extensive knowledge with the natural potential of the vineyard.

"La Cappelletta is a life project, a constant dialogue between people and nature,
between past and future, between tradition and innovation."

NATALIA

Regenerating the land through research and respect

Gazing over the lush green terraces of La Cappelletta, it is hard to believe that this quiet hillside farm wasn’t always teeming with life. When Natalia first arrived, the land was waiting for its story to be told.

Since then, agronomists, landscape designers, university professors and oenologists have walked the vineyard’s paths, studying the land and working tirelessly to restore its natural identity. Over time, La Cappelletta has been transformed into a living laboratory, a vibrant space that sits at the heart of a multidisciplinary effort to honour the land and revive its former splendour.

La Cappelletta is constantly evolving. Thanks to close collaboration with environmental scientists from the University of Florence, the land is regenerating, and a self sustaining ecosystem is emerging. Detailed analysis of the vineyard' past and present state has made it possible to reintroduce native flora and fauna and protect the pollinating insects they depend on.

Every decision is a step on the journey to restoring La Cappelletta’s legacy, and every harvest is a reflection of the care invested in the land.
La Cappelletta is more than a vineyard. It is a model of sustainable agriculture designed to preserve and protect a cultural memory spanning two thousand years. It is a project born out of love and guided by a desire to breathe life back into the land for generations to come.
